The Colorado Rockies' 2007 campaign began with a goal to better their 2006 record (76-86). They concluded with a franchise-best 90 wins in 163 games, securing a playoff spot as the National League Wild Card team. In a remarkable late-season surge, the Rockies went from 76-72 on September 16 to winning 14 of their final 15 games. This included a thrilling 9-8, 13-inning victory over the San Diego Padres in a one-game playoff for the wild card. The Rockies then swept their first seven playoff games to claim the 2007 National League Pennant, their first-ever. Up to the World Series, they won 21 out of 22 games. However, their incredible run ended as they were swept in the 2007 World Series by the Boston Red Sox.
