Product Description 3M flap disc 577F is a versatile product that delivers a fast cut, long life and a smooth finish. Performance and price make these discs a great value and the flap design allows one disc to perform both the grinding and blending steps. The economic alumina zirconia mineral is ideal for lowering abrasive costs on both mild and stainless steel applications. Can grind and blend in a single step. Good for sharp edge work and flat finishing. Grinding aid for cooler running. Type 27. For aggressive stock removal on a variety of welds, coatings and other metal fabrication applications. The overlapping coated abrasive cloth flaps on flap discs provide several layers of abrasives, making the disc very durable. High pressure grinding, deburring, edge work and beveling. For those really big jobs, try the 3M giant flap disc 577F with 25 percent more thickness for aggressive cut and durability. Center hole diameter: 111/128". Coat type: closed coat. Color: green. Converted form: flap disc. Diameter: 4-1/2". Equipment - machines: right angle grinders. Form type: type 27. Grade: 36. Max rpm: 13300. Max speed: 80 meter per second. Position: better. From the Manufacturer The 3M™ Flap Disc 577F Type 27 giant disc tackles the toughest high-pressure metalworking applications and leaves a blended finish, all in a single step. The 577F abrasive flap disc features fast-cutting alumina zirconia mineral on durable polyester-backed flaps for extra cutting power, and long life on heavy duty applications such as weld removal, sharp-edge work, and beveling. A grinding aid reduces grinding temperatures for processes involving heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium. Ideal for tough grinding applications where final finish is important, the overlapping layers of the flaps continually wear away with use to expose fresh abrasive mineral for a fast, consistent cut, while the cushioning of the flaps creates a blended finish. Flap discs typically generate a finish one grade finer than the disc is graded, reducing finishing steps. Type 27 is designed for high pressure applications on flat surfaces or outside edges and produces a smooth finish. Flap discs are used on a right angle grinder. For attachment, 4-1/2 inch flap discs require a flap disc adapter nut, and the 7 inch discs require a flap disc holder (both sold separately). Giant 4-1/2 inch flap discs have a max RPM of 13,300, and the 7 inch discs have a max RPM of 8,600. Giant size flap discs have the same diameter as standard flap discs but wider flaps. The wider flaps create extra-thick layers and are packed with 25% more abrasive material than on standard flap discs, for more aggressive cut and longer life. Flap discs are three-dimensional grinding discs with overlapping layers of abrasive-coated, fiber-reinforced flaps that fan out from a central hub. These flaps continually wear away with use to expose fresh mineral for a fast, consistent cut. The one-step alternative to bonded wheels and fiber discs, flap discs grind and finish in a single step, making them a time and cost-saving solution in many typical applications. Under normal conditions, flap discs will generate a finish that is one grade finer than the finish of a fibre disc of the same grade. And, because their overlapping construction allows more abrasive material to be loaded onto the cutting surface, they far outlast typical discs. Flap discs have the flexibility to easily follow curves and contours while delivering less gouging and enhancing operator comfort. They are ideal for a wide range of applications, including weld grinding, deburring, rust removal, edge grinding, and weld seam blending. For more than a century, 3M has applied innovation and technology to improving our customers’ lives and supporting their business goals.
